Wow. This was both very scary and interesting to read…
Why does the shit that spreads all over the world and ruins it seem to always come from the USA? McDonalds, tobacco, massive automobiles, high-capacity automatic rifles, comic superhero movies, now cybernetic prosthesis and the black rot? Man…
Did this create a large market for prosthetics, or the other way round?
This is the right question
Depends on how much attention you pay to the conspiracy theorists in alterna-1995.

This universe’s version of HIV/AIDS?
Oh, HIV is still around here, too. The ’80s were a pretty bleak time for humanity in the D&W-verse.

I well be seeing that poor guy in my nightmares
Is there a vaccine? The President don’t have the rot. Ms. Billionaire Miriam Hope-Fokker don’t got it. I notice /you/ don’t got it.
By ’95, the spread of the disease has been mostly contained. (At least in the industrialized world; elsewhere, things are still pretty ugly.) There are treatments, but they’re brutally expensive, pretty debilitating, and a ways off from 100% effectiveness.

Deus Ex, eh?
Well at least Dan doesn’t have the black rot so he has that going for him. Which is nice.
He doesn’t does he?
Hush, don’t jinx him!
Yow, that is disturbing and unsettling and feels like foreshadowing. ;)
